Lance Mackey

Age: 41
Hometown: Fairbanks, AK

Lance first raced the K300 in 2007 finishing 8th. Most recently, Lance finished 3rd in the 2010 K300 and was awarded the Humanitarian Award. Lance's career highlights include four consecutive wins in the Iditarod (2007-2010) as well as four consecutive Yukon Quest victories (2005-2008).

Paul Gebhardt

Age: 55
Hometown: Kasilof, AK

2011 champion of the K300, Paul Gebhardt, will return to defend his title in the 2012 race! Last year, Paul won the K300 with an overall elapsed time of 39 hours, 17 minutes and 20 seconds. Paul's 2011 victory was the second closest finish in the history of the K300. Paul first raced the K300 in 1999 and is a nine-time finisher of the K300. Paul is also a veteran of the Iditarod and Kobuk 440 as well as numerous other dog sled races.

Martin Buser

Age: 53
Hometown: Big Lake, AK

Martin Buser returns to the K300 for his 16th running of the world's premier middle distance dog sled race. Martin won the K300 in his first appearance (1994) setting a K300 record of 37:04:00 that stands to this day. Martin would repeat as K300 champion in 2007. Martin has finished second in the K300 a record five times (2002-2004, 2009, 2010). Martin is also a four time winner of the Iditarod taking first place in 1992, 1994, 1997 and 2002.

Rohn Buser

Hometown: Big Lake, AK

Rohn Buser will make his 3rd appearance in the 2012 Kuskokwim 300. Rohn's finished fourth in his rookie year (2007) and fifth in 2008 K300. Rohn has also finished the Iditarod in 2008. Rohn races for Happy Trails Kennel.

Isaac Underwood

Age: 32
Hometown: Aniak, AK

Isaac Underwood becomes the first rookie to register for the 2012 Kuskokwim 300. Isaac is a well known local musher having worked with his brother, Nathan Underwood, and his father, Ron Underwood. Isaac raced in the 1996 Akiak Dash finishing 16. Isaac also entered the 2010 Bogus Creek 150. Isaac races for Underwood kennels.

Ken Anderson

Age: 39
Hometown: Fairbanks, AK

Ken Anderson joins the 2012 Kuskokwim 300 field for his third running of the annual race. Ken previously raced in the K300 in 2004, finishing 16th, and 2009 when he finished 4th. Ken is a veteren of the Iditarod, having run the race regularly since 1999, finishing in fourth in both 2008 and 2010. Ken also placed second in last year's Kobuck 440.

Kathleen Holden - WITHDRAWN

Hometown: Talkeetna, AK

Kathleen Holden, of Talketna, becomes the second rookie to register for the 2012 K300. Kathleen is a veteran spring musher who has been dog mushing for the last 30 years and is making her first appearance in the K300.

Mike Williams, Sr.

Hometown: Akiak, AK

Local mushing legend, Mike Williams, Sr., has registered to run in his 23rd K300. Mike has finished the race in 22 out of his 23 attempts, placing a career best fifth place in 2002. Additionally, Mike has placed in the top 10 on nine other occassions (1983, 1984, 1989, 1991, 1992, 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2010). Mike has also raced in the Iditarod, completing the 1100 mile race 14 times and finishing a career high 18th in 1997.

Chuck Schaeffer - WITHDRAWN

Hometown: Kotzebue, AK

Chuck Schaeffer will race in his fifth K300 after joining the field for the 2012 race. Chuck just missed winning the K300 on two occassions, finishing second in 1991 and third in 1992. Chuck is a veteran musher and has competed in numerous other races including the Iditarod and the Kobuck 440. Chuck also serves as the President of the Kobuck 440 Racing Association.

Mike Williams, Jr.

Age: 26
Hometown: Akiak, AK

Mike Williams, Jr. joins the 2012 K300 field, marking the sixth time, Mike will race for the prestigious K300 win. Mike finished second in last year's K300, finishing a mere 1 minute behind champion Paul Gebhardt. Mike is a two time recipient of the Best in the West Award, winning it in 2010 and 2011. Mike is a two time finisher of the Iditarod, and has also competed in the Bogus Creek 150, the Akiak Dash, the Kobuk 440 and many local sprint races.

Ramey Smyth

Age: 36
Hometown: Willow, AK

Ramey Smyth will return to Bethel to run in his 7th K300. Ramey is a former K300 champion, winning the race in 1995. Ramey also placed 2nd in 2008 and 3rd in 1997. Ramey has completed the Iditarod 17 times, noteably finishing the last 15 races. Ramey finished a career high 2nd in last years Iditarod. Ramey has also won the Knik 200 on four occassions. Aaron Burmeister

Age: 36
Hometown: Nome, AK

Aaron Burmeister joins the 2012 K300 field. Aaron will be chasing the K300 win in his 5th career start for the YK Delta based race. Aaron has previously raced in the K300 in 1999, 2003, 2006 and 2009, finishing a career high of 8th in the 2003 race. An accomplished musher, Aaron has been mushing for his entire life. Aaron has also competed in the Iditarod, finishing the race 12 times, most recently in 2009 when he placed 2nd. Aaron also has participated in the Yukon Quest, Kobuck 440 and all races in between. Scott Smith

Age: 41
Hometown: Nenana, AK

Veteran musher, Scott Smith, has officially registered for the 2012 K300. Scott is making his first appearance in the World's Premier Middle Distance Dog Sled Race! Scott has previously raced in dog mushing contests all over the country, including the Iditarod on four separate occassions (2004-2008). Scott has been mushing for 20 years. Scott races for Red Dog Racing and Flat Dog Kennels

Ray Redington, Jr.

Age: 36
Hometown: Wasilla, AK

Ray Redington, Jr. has officially registered to make his third attempt at the K300 crown! Ray has raced in the 300 previously in 2003, finishing 6th, and 2011, finishing 11th. As a member of the legendary Redington family, Ray has been mushing for his entire lifetime and has raced in the Kobuck 440, the Knik 200, the Copper Basin 300, the Klondike/Tug 300 anbd the Tustumena 200. Ray has also raced in 10 Iditarods, finishing a career best 7th in 2011. Ray races for Redington Kennels.

Cim Smyth


Cim Smyth becomes the 15th official musher to join the 2012 K300 field! Cim is making his 3rd start in the historic race. He has previously raced in the K300 in 1996, finishing 5th, andf 2002, finishing 13th. Cim joins his brother in this year's field, continuing the K300's long standing tradition of familial ties amongst the mushers. A veteren musher, Cim has raced in numerous dog sled races around Alaska. Cim has raced in the Iditarod 10 times, finishing a career best 5th in 2009 race.

John Baker

Age: 49
Hometown: Kotzebue, AK

2010 K300 Champion and defending Iditarod Champion John Baker has officially registered for the 2012 K300! John is racing in his 11th K300 where he has an accomplished track record. John has eight Top-10 finishes (1997-98, 2001, 2006 and 2008-2009) and has notched (2006, 2011), 5th twice (1998John has raced in the John won the 2011 Iditarod, breaking the race record by three hours. In the Iditarod, John has finished in the Top-10 twelve times and in the Top-5 six times. John has raced in numerous other races throughout the state of Alaska and has won the Kobuk 440.

Pete Kaiser

Age: 24
Hometown: Bethel, AK

Local Bethel musher, Pete Kaiser, is the 17th person to register for the 2012 K300. Pete looks to capture his first K300 title after finishing a career high 3rd in last year's race. The 2012 race will be Pete's fourth attempt at K300 glory. Pete finished 6th in 2009 earning him Rookie of the Year and Best in the West awards. Pete also received the sportsmanship award in 2010. Pete has twice finished the Iditarod, placing a career best 8th in 2011. Pete also scored a breakthrough victory in the 2011 Kobuk 440. Pete is a former champion of the Bogus Creek 150 (2008) and has also competed in the Akiak Dash.

Richie Diehl

Age: 26
Hometown: Aniak, AK

Local musher, Richie Diehl, is the 18th official entrant in the 2012 K300. This is the fourth time Richie has entered the K300. In 2011 Richie finished a career high 14th and was awarded the Humanitarian Award for his efforts. Richie has also competed in the Aniak 150 and the Sheep Mountain 150. Earlier this year, Richie finished 3rd in the 2011 Sheep Mountain 150. Richie has been mushing for his entire life and races for Real Diehl Racing Kennels.

Louie Ambrose

Age: 41
Hometown: St. Michael, AK

Musher Louie Ambrose has officially joined the field for the 2012 K300. Louie makes his second attempt at the K300, after having previously entering the race in 2011. Louie has previously raced in the Norton Sound Portage, the Sheep Mountain 150 and the Gin Gin 200. Louie races for Teekona Kennels and has been racing for the last six years.
