The 2022 Akiak Dash will begin with a mass start on the Kuskokwim River on Saturday, January 29th at 2pm. Registration is required and must be submitted by Thursday, January 27th.
All mushers must begin the race with no more than 7 dogs and no less than 5 dogs. Like last year, there will be no layover and therefore, no dropped dogs are permitted. All racers must carry a sleeping bag and an axe for the duration of the race and begin the race with four booties for every dog. Complete Race Rules and Purse Breakdown here.
Mushers are required to attend a pre-race musher meeting to be held near the starting line one hour before the race (1pm).
Covid-19 mitigation policies are in effect. Mushers will be assigned a bib number and designated starting position based on the order of registration. Mushers and their crews are required to practice social distancing and remain within their designated starting area. As was announced earlier this season, all mushers and handlers are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Mushers must provide proof of vaccination at the time of registration (if they have not already) and handlers must carry proof with them while assisting with the race.
