Raymond Alexie's unprecedented run of domination continued with yet another win this weekend, as he bested a field of 12 racers in the annual Campout Race. On Saturday, teams made a leisurely run to our camp location, up the Gweek River, about 41 miles from Bethel. The race began at 10 AM Sunday with a mass start and a dash back to Bethel. Alexie took an early lead and never looked back, needing only 2 hours and 41 minutes to reach the finish line, 14 minutes ahead of second place finisher, John George.
For the win Alexie took home a prize of $3,350. As Delta Series Champ he will be awarded a $5,000 credit with Underdog Feeds in Wasilla, a $1,000 freight credit with Northern Air Cargo and a new iPhone, courtesy of GCI.
With his second place finish John George also secured second place in the Delta Championship Series for his Tag-along Kennel. Darren George also raced for Tag-along throughout the season and they will receive a $500 freight credit with Northern Air Cargo. The Bad River Kennel (Jason and Lewis Pavila) finished third in the Series and will receive a $250 credit with NAC.
This concludes the 2023-24 racing season for the K300 Race Committee. We're proud to have hosted 7 successful races this winter, through which we distributed $400,000 in prize money, the vast majority of it going to kennels right here on the Kuskokwim River.
If conditions hold up we'll try to host some fun runs in the coming weeks... stay tuned for more on that!
